Which Fukuoka attractions should you visit?
For relaxed walks, consider Ohori Park or Hakata’s old town. The science museum offers indoor exhibitions on rainy days. Choose Marine World to see marine life with children, or Momochi Beach and Fukuoka Tower for the coast. Allow separately for travelling out of the city to Dazaifu’s shrine grounds and shop-lined approach.

Kushida Shrine
櫛田神社
Stop at Kushida Shrine if you’d like to explore festival traditions while walking in Hakata’s old town. Hakata Gion Yamakasa is dedicated to the shrine, where you can also see a large ginkgo tree. Nearby restaurants and shops keep different hours from the shrine.
- AdmissionThe official tourism guide does not list a separate fee to visit the shrine grounds. Amulets and souvenirs cost extra.
- HoursMain sanctuary worship: 04:00–22:00. Reconfirm arrangements on festival days.
- Getting thereTake the subway Nanakuma Line from Hakata to Kushida Shrine Station. The shrine is about 2 minutes’ walk from the station.
Ohori Park

Choose Ohori Park for a relaxed lakeside walk. The Japanese garden and art museum have their own admission fees and opening hours, separate from the walking paths.
- AdmissionThe lakeside paths and bridges are free. The Japanese garden, art museum and boats each have separate charges.
- HoursThe walking paths have no ticketing or last admission time. Check the relevant opening hours and closure dates if you’re visiting the Japanese garden or art museum.
- Getting thereTake the subway Airport Line to Ohori-koen Station and walk to the park. If you’re also visiting the science museum, allow extra time to reach Ropponmatsu.
Fukuoka City Science Museum
福岡市科学館
The science museum offers indoor exhibitions for a rainy day. Entry to the building is free, but the basic exhibition and planetarium each require a ticket.
- Admission5th-floor basic exhibition: adults JPY 510; high school students JPY 310; elementary and junior high school students JPY 200. Planetarium and special exhibitions cost extra.
- HoursBuilding: 09:30–21:30. Basic exhibition on the 5th floor: 09:30–18:00, last admission 17:30. Closed Tuesdays and 28 December–1 January. If Tuesday is a public holiday, it opens and closes the next weekday instead. During school holidays it opens daily except at year-end and New Year. Check the closure calendar for your date.
- Getting thereTake the subway Nanakuma Line to Ropponmatsu Station and walk to the museum. Ask about tickets for your chosen exhibition at the information and ticket counter on the 3rd floor.
Fukuoka Tower
福岡タワー
Fukuoka Tower’s observation deck overlooks Momochi Beach and Hakata Bay. Choose a beach walk, the paid observation deck or both according to your plans.
- AdmissionStandard observation deck admission: adults (high school age and older) JPY 1,000; elementary and junior high school students JPY 500; preschool children aged 4 and older JPY 200.
- Hours09:30–22:00; last admission 21:30. Admission may close earlier on busy days. The tower is closed on 28–29 June 2027; check operating notices for your visit date.
- Getting thereYou can take a bus from Hakata or Tenjin. Stops and routes depend on the date, so search Nishitetsu for a service stopping at Fukuoka Tower Minami.
Momochi Beach
Momochi Seaside Parkシーサイドももち海浜公園
Momochi Beach is north of Fukuoka Tower. After exploring the city centre, walk along the shore or take a break by the water. Beach walks and Marizon’s shops and activities have different costs and operating hours.
- AdmissionNo separate admission ticket is listed for walking on the public beach. Check charges for shops, activities and parking separately.
- HoursThe official tourism page does not list opening hours for the beach as a whole. Check individual hours for nearby shops and water activities.
- Getting thereThe official tourism guide recommends getting off a Nishitetsu bus at Fukuoka Tower Minami. From there, walk to the beach north of the tower.
Marine World Uminonakamichi
マリンワールド海の中道
Marine World is an option for seeing marine life with children. Leave plenty of time to watch the tanks. With a JR transfer and time needed inside, a mid-trip visit is more relaxed than departure day. Nearby Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a separate attraction with its own admission fee.
- AdmissionIndividual admission: adults JPY 2,500; elementary and junior high school students JPY 1,200; preschool children aged 3 and older JPY 700. Transport costs extra.
- HoursUsually 09:30–17:30; December–February 10:00–17:00. Hours are extended on designated Golden Week and summer dates. Last admission is 1 hour before closing. Closed 18–21 January 2027. Show-pool construction suspends sea lion and dolphin shows and closes the seating area from 12 January to 9 April 2027. This period includes contingency days for construction; check the reopening announcement before visiting.
- Getting thereTake JR from Hakata, change to the Kashii Line at Kashii and get off at Uminonakamichi. The subway day pass does not cover the JR sections.

Dazaifu Tenmangu
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine太宰府天満宮
Dazaifu Tenmangu is a shrine dedicated to the deity of learning. Explore its grounds with large trees, and walk the shop-lined approach from the station. It is outside Fukuoka City, so set aside at least half a day for the visit and return journey.
- AdmissionEntry to the shrine grounds and main sanctuary worship is free. On-site museums and nearby attractions have separate fees.
- HoursOpening time varies seasonally between 06:00 and 06:30. Closing is 18:30 in December–March, 19:30 in June–August and 19:00 in other months. Last admission to the on-site museum is 16:00.
- Getting thereTake the subway from Hakata to Tenjin, then walk to Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station. Confirm whether your Dazaifu train is direct or requires a transfer at Futsukaichi. Walk along the shrine approach from Dazaifu Station.
