Day 2: daytime at Nunobiki Herb Gardens
For a daytime garden visit, check uphill ropeway service, garden entry and the last downhill ride together. After reaching the lower station, return to Sannomiya by City Loop.

At the lower station, buy a return ticket including garden admission. Add waiting and sightseeing time to the roughly 10-minute ropeway ride. Eat lunch on the hill and walk the gardens; check restaurant hours and seating separately. Descend by ropeway in the afternoon and return to Sannomiya. Day 3: Himeji Castle, then Koko-en
See Himeji Castle’s keep and Koko-en on the same day. Start in the morning to allow for stairs and entry queues, and choose your JR return train.

From JR Sannomiya, take a Special Rapid train towards Himeji/Aboshi/Banshu-Ako and get off at Himeji. The official ride time is roughly 40 minutes, excluding station access and waits. Choose morning arrival and return services for your actual date.

- JR Himeji north exit → Castle keep and separate Koko-en entrance
Leave Himeji Station’s north exit, walk roughly 20 minutes to the castle as officially indicated, visit the castle, have lunch outside, then enter Koko-en through its separate entrance west of the castle. Remove shoes and climb stairs in the keep; there is no elevator. Start in the morning, since queues may add to the official 90–120-minute visit estimate.

- Koko-en → Garden visit and JR return to Sannomiya
Regular garden last entry is 16:30; check event-day hours. Use the combined castle/garden ticket when visiting both on the same day. After Koko-en, return to JR Himeji Station. If the castle visit runs late, shorten your garden stay or check a later return train. Koko-en’s official roughly 15-minute walk estimate is from JR Himeji Station towards the garden. Check your return route from the actual exit at your walking pace, allowing station access and waits. Take a train towards Osaka/Kyoto from JR Himeji and get off at Sannomiya.

Day 4: Harborland and Shin-Kobe departure
After Harborland’s waterfront, return to Sannomiya and continue to Shin-Kobe. Shorten or skip the walk if you cannot leave enough time for the Shinkansen transfer.

The official map places Harborland stop 1 near umie North Mall. Walk towards Benten Bridge to Mosaic and the Takahama Wharf waterfront, then return to the same stop. Enter Subway Sannomiya Station through the B1 gates. On B2, board at platform 1 towards Shin-Kobe/Tanigami and get off at Shin-Kobe. Distinguish it from Sannomiya-Hanadokeimae on the Kaigan Line. Add platform access and waiting to the roughly two-minute ride. At Shin-Kobe, follow JR Shinkansen signs to second-floor gates and third-floor platforms. Platform 2 serves Shin-Osaka/Tokyo; platform 1 serves Okayama/Kyushu. Add ticket collection, elevator waits and walking with luggage to JR’s standard 10-minute transfer allowance. Shorten or skip the last visit if needed to catch your reserved train. Airport departures require separate terminal travel and flight check-in.

Day 2: move to Arima accommodation
Spend the night in Arima. After two train transfers, go to your booked accommodation. Kin no Yu is a separate choice from ryokan baths and meals.

Board a Tanigami-bound train at Subway Sannomiya’s B2 platform 1. Trains terminating at Shin-Kobe do not reach Tanigami, so check the destination. Add platform access and waiting to the roughly 10-minute ride. When travelling with luggage, allow checkout and hotel-to-station time.

Kin no Yu is optional; the facility’s existing access guidance places it roughly five minutes on foot from the Kobe Electric Railway station. Does the Arima overnight route’s cost include a ryokan stay?
No. It totals rail return via Tanigami ¥1,440, herb gardens ¥2,500 and specified City Loop rides ¥1,800. Calculate ryokan accommodation/meals and optional Kin no Yu separately. Adding Kin no Yu gives ¥6,390 on ordinary weekdays or ¥6,540 on other applicable dates.

Where do I go the day after staying in Arima?
On day 3 morning, return from Arima Onsen Station via Arimaguchi and Tanigami to Sannomiya. Walk Harborland after lunch and stay in Sannomiya that night. Shorten the harbour walk if you depart Arima late. Visit the herb gardens on day 4, shortening or skipping them to fit departure.

It begins after arrival in Sannomiya. Check travel from your Osaka/Kyoto starting station to Kobe, then your chosen attractions and hotel separately. For a same-day return, check final attraction–station–original hotel connections. Reduce attractions to fit return travel time on a single-day visit.

The JR passes in this guide exclude Osaka Metro. Check your chosen pass’s coverage and valid days for JR Sannomiya–Osaka; calculate subway travel from Osaka Station to attractions separately. For a day trip, choose a train back to Sannomiya after returning to the JR station.
