  • HoursObservation floors/rooftop: 09:00–23:00, gate entry until 22:30. Maintenance and private bookings may alter hours. No same-day ticket is available for a sold-out dated, timed slot.
  • Getting thereGet off City Loop at Port Tower stop 17 and go to the ground-floor ticket and information desk. The rooftop is accessible only by stairs from observation floor 5. It may open in rain, but umbrellas are prohibited. Rain or strong winds may close it without notice. Check that day’s operating notices.

Choose Harborland for a meal or shopping after your harbour walk. It is a different area from Meriken Park, so allow separate travel and meal time. Facilities, meals and shopping cost extra. Check individual business hours if passing through buildings or eating there.

  • Getting thereOn the official April 2026 map, City Loop stop 1, Harborland (in front of Mosaic), is on the North Mall side. Walk via Benten Bridge to Mosaic and Takahama Wharf. Allow time for the walk and return to the stop.

Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens

Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens & Ropeway神戸布引ハーブ園/ロープウェイ

Choose Nunobiki Herb Gardens for flowers, herbs and a hilltop garden walk. Ride the ropeway up for garden scenery that changes with the season. The regular return ticket includes garden admission. If walking the gardens is your aim, distinguish daytime areas from those open at night.

  • AdmissionRegular return prices revised on 1 April 2026: adults ¥2,500; elementary/junior high students ¥1,250, including ropeway and garden admission. Christmas prices are separate.
  • HoursWeekdays from 4 September to 6 November 2026: uphill service 09:30–16:45, last downhill service 17:15. Garden hours 10:00–17:00, last entry 16:30. Saturday, Sunday and public-holiday night visits have limited accessible areas.
  • Getting thereWalk roughly five minutes from Shin-Kobe Station to the lower ropeway station, then ride roughly 10 minutes to the top. Waiting time is extra; strong winds or lightning may suspend service.

Choose this to climb the keep’s stairs and explore the castle in detail. Slopes and stairs make it more physically demanding than a harbour walk.

  • AdmissionStandard admission for ages 18+: ¥2,500; resident rate ¥1,000; Koko-en combined ticket ¥2,600. Do not apply the resident rate to travellers. Check official exemptions for under-18s and the school-year age boundary.
  • Hours09:00–17:00, last entry 16:00. Closed 29–30 December.
  • Getting thereFrom Sannomiya, take JR Special Rapid towards Himeji/Aboshi/Banshu-Ako: roughly 40 minutes. Walk roughly 20 minutes from Himeji Station to the castle. Station access and waits are extra. The keep has stairs and slopes, with no elevator.

好古園

Koko-en has nine gardens with different designs, including a pond garden and tea garden. Walk beside the ponds to see Japanese garden landscapes. Choose the combined ticket if also visiting Himeji Castle, or garden-only admission for Koko-en alone.

  • AdmissionStandard ages 18+: garden-only ¥400; Himeji Castle combined ticket ¥2,600. Free through the end of the school year in which visitors turn 18.
  • Hours09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30. Closed 29–30 December. Check event-day exceptions separately.
  • Getting thereThe official walk from JR Himeji Station to the garden is roughly 15 minutes. Go to Koko-en’s separate entrance west of Himeji Castle. Look for the gate in the enclosing wall; it differs from the paid castle entrance. Do not apply the station-to-garden estimate unchanged when starting at the castle.

Arima Kin no Yu

Kin no Yu金の湯

Kin no Yu is a public bath with Arima’s brown golden spring water. You can visit without staying at hot-spring accommodation. Full bathing costs money; the footbath beside it is free. Decide whether to bathe or use only the footbath, then check closures and transport back to Kobe.

  • AdmissionAdults: weekdays ¥650, otherwise ¥800. Busy periods including New Year, Golden Week and Obon are excluded from weekday pricing. Elementary/junior high students: ¥350.
  • Hours08:00–22:00, last reception 21:30. Closed the second and fourth Tuesday each month, or the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday. Also closed 1 January.
  • Getting thereTransfer via Subway Tanigami, Kobe Electric Railway Arimaguchi and Arima Onsen. The facility’s April 2023 guidance gives roughly five minutes on foot from the railway station, which differs from the ropeway station. Recheck dated services and actual transfer routes.

Can I take an elevator to Port Tower’s rooftop?

The rooftop is accessible only by stairs from observation floor 5. If stairs are difficult, consider an observation-floor-only ticket.

Can I see the same herb gardens in the evening?

Evening access does not include all daytime areas. Hours also vary by season and day. For daytime gardens, check uphill ropeway last boarding, garden last entry and final downhill service together.
