Day 1
Explore the keep and restoration work, then eat dinner in Torichosuji.
- Kumamoto Station → Kumamoto Castle
From outside Kumamoto Station, take route A towards Kengunmachi and get off at Kumamotojo-Shiyakushomae. Walk via Josaien to the south entrance. Only the south entrance is available on weekdays; follow construction guidance for north-side access on weekends and public holidays.

- Kumamoto Castle → Torichosuji dinner and city stay
After the castle and keep, rest at Josaien, then walk to Torichosuji for dinner. Stay near Torichosuji tonight. Wakuwakuza is excluded from the basic itinerary.

September–June hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with last admission at 4 p.m. and keep admission until 4:30 p.m. In July–August, the grounds close at 7 p.m., with last admission at 6 p.m. and keep admission until 6:30 p.m. Check official notices for event extensions on your visit date.
Day 2
Walk around the pond, then return to Kumamoto Station.
- Torichosuji → Suizenji Garden
From Torichosuji, take a Kengunmachi-bound tram to Suizenji-Koen and walk about 5 minutes to the garden’s main entrance. Walk around the pond after the 8:30 a.m. opening. A regular garden walk takes about 30–40 minutes; allow separately for meals and rest.

From Suizenji-Koen, take route A towards Tasakibashi and get off outside Kumamoto Station for departure.

Spend one night near Sakuramachi, giving the museum and city-centre art museum separate days. Walk to the museum on day one, then visit the art museum after 10 a.m. on day two before taking the tram to the station.
Day 1
Explore exhibits on Kumamoto’s nature and history today.

Walk from your Sakuramachi accommodation via the bus terminal to the museum. The operator gives about 15 minutes on foot from the terminal. Use the building’s north entrance on the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence side. Explore nature and history in the permanent exhibition, open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. with last admission at 4:30 p.m.

Retrace the walk towards Sakuramachi for a meal and check-in. The planetarium and special exhibitions are optional extras. By tram, get off at Sugidomo and walk about 5 minutes. From Kumamoto Station, route A requires a change at Karashimacho to route B towards Kami-Kumamoto.
Day 2
Walk from your Sakuramachi accommodation to Torichosuji for free art spaces before leaving.

Walk from your Sakuramachi accommodation towards Torichosuji. From the stop, walk about 1 minute to Bipres Kumanichi Kaikan. Use the elevator or escalator on the tram-street side to the contemporary art museum on the third floor. After its 10 a.m. opening, explore Home Gallery and available free areas. Events may introduce separate fees or access restrictions.

Can I visit the museum and art museum on Mondays and Tuesdays?
The municipal museum normally closes Mondays and the contemporary art museum Tuesdays. Public holidays move closures to the following day or next weekday respectively; check your date’s calendar. The day-two art museum visit starts after 10 a.m. and requires onward time to Kumamoto Station. For an early departure, visit on an earlier day.
