Admission

Admission costs JPY 1,000 for visitors of high school age and above, and JPY 500 for primary and junior high school pupils. Museum admission is included.

Zuiganji opens daily at 08:30. In April–September, it closes at 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. In March and October, it closes at 16:30, with last entry at 16:00; in February and November, it closes at 16:00, with last entry at 15:30; in January and December, it closes at 15:30, with last entry at 15:00.

What can I see at Zuiganji?

Different decoration in each room

Main-hall rooms have paintings and carvings suited to their themes, along with different ceilings. Look at wall paintings and overhead decoration as you move between rooms.

How to get to Zuiganji

Take the JR Senseki Line from Sendai to Matsushima-Kaigan, then walk about ten minutes to Zuiganji. Tohoku Main Line Matsushima is a different station with about a 25-minute temple walk.

Before you visit

Matsushima-Kaigan and Matsushima are different stations

Zuiganji is about ten minutes’ walk from Matsushima-Kaigan and 25 from Matsushima. From Sendai, check that your Senseki Line train stops at Matsushima-Kaigan.
