Spread city visits across days or stay in Sasebo?

Four nights in Nagasaki City allow time for harbor attractions, the Atomic Bomb Museum, and the night view. To visit both cities, spend two nights each in Nagasaki and Sasebo. Cruise on day four and leave Sasebo for the airport on day five. To add another city, compare directions in the nearby-trip guide below.

The Sasebo highway bus costs ¥1,800 for an adult paying cash or using a ticket, or ¥1,550 when the full fare is paid with a transit IC card. Mixed payments do not receive the discount. No reservation is needed, but you cannot board if it is full. Add waiting and congestion to the shortest listed ride of 85 minutes; check the stated service intervals of 30–90 minutes.

    Highway bus

Distinguish the airport bus from the Sasebo highway bus. At Sasebo Bus Center, collect luggage and go to your booked hotel. Check the actual boarding point, capacity, luggage rules, and walk to your hotel. Do not attach the final cruise departure to this transfer day.

Day 4: Kujukushima cruise and return to your Sasebo hotel

Continue staying at your Sasebo hotel. Leave large luggage in your room, visit the cruise, then return to rest. Airport departure is tomorrow.

  1. Sasebo Station stop 6 → Pearl Sea Resort bus stop

Take a bus toward Pearl Sea Resort/Kujukushima Aquarium. The adult fare is ¥390 one way; the regular bus takes about 25 minutes and the express about 18 minutes. Choose a sailing that leaves time for ticketing and the walk to the pier rather than assuming you can board immediately after the bus.

    Bus access

  2. Resort bus stop → Cruise terminal ticket counter

From the bus stop by the shops at Parking Lot 1, follow the walkway in front of the shops toward the seaside cruise terminal. Choose a Sasebo Station-bound service in the resort-departure timetable. The adult one-way fare is ¥390; the express ride takes about 18 minutes, with waiting and traffic delays additional. The last bus in the express table is not necessarily the last service across all regular routes.

    Bus access

Leave from Sasebo Station stop 6 and check the resort-departure timetable for your return. Do not assume the bus's arrival lets you board immediately: check same-day operations, ticket purchase, and the pier walk. If you cannot cruise, return to your Sasebo hotel. You do not travel to the airport today.

Day 5: Sasebo hotel to Nagasaki Airport

After two nights each in Nagasaki and Sasebo and the day-four cruise, depart on day five. Travel from Sasebo to the airport without adding more sightseeing in either city.

  1. Sasebo hotel → Sasebo Bus Center stop 1

Collect your luggage and go to airport-bound stop 1 at Sasebo Bus Center. No reservation is needed, but you cannot board if it is full. Choose an early service with room for check-in. Walking, hotel shuttles, or taxis to the stop take time and cost beyond the airport-bus fare.

After two nights in Nagasaki and two in Sasebo, leave from airport-bound stop 1 at Sasebo Bus Center on day five. Hotel-to-stop travel and the route to the airline counter take time beyond the bus ride. Hotel access costs are outside the ¥1,500 adult one-way fare. Leave with a margin before check-in closes for full buses and traffic delays. If the connection becomes difficult, ask the bus operator and airline about available transport or boarding changes.

Subtotal of the listed inclusions: ¥4,600 (facilities only)

Included items: Dejima ¥1,100; Glover Garden ¥1,300; cruise ¥2,200

Costs outside the subtotal: Hotels, meals, flights, luggage storage, extra hotel-to-stop transportation, and optional facilities. Trams and airport buses are outside this facility subtotal. The Nagasaki–Sasebo highway bus and Pearl Sea Resort bus round trip are also excluded.

This adds facility costs only; do not use it as a total trip budget including transportation. If the cruise is canceled or tickets are unavailable, skip it and rest at the resort or return to Sasebo. Do not add the cruise fare if you do not sail. The cruise and airport transfer are on separate days; choose the final-day bus separately around airline check-in requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stay only one night in Sasebo and take the Kujukushima cruise?

The Sasebo itinerary on this page stays two nights in Nagasaki followed by two in Sasebo. For only one Sasebo night, first check whether you can cruise on arrival day and reach the airport bus the following day. With a late arrival, a two-night stay that sets aside a cruise day may fit better.

In the four-night city itinerary, are the garden and night view on the same day?

Glover Garden is on day two, the Atomic Bomb Museum on day three, and Mount Inasa's night view on day four. The ¥4,500 counts four facility visits only; trams and airport buses are separate. Reserve the outbound free night-view bus and its matching return. The ¥1,900 ropeway round trip is already included in that ¥4,500.

Does the JR Northern Kyushu Pass cover buses in the Sasebo itinerary?

It does not cover this itinerary's buses. The Nagasaki–Sasebo highway bus, airport buses, trams, and Pearl Sea Resort buses are outside the JR Northern Kyushu Pass's covered transportation. Cruise fares are separate as well. If traveling by rail instead, compare covered JR segments, outbound and return trains, local connections, and individual fares before choosing a pass. Pass purchase costs or savings are outside the basic itinerary figure. Eligibility requires a non-Japanese passport, residence outside Japan, and entry for tourism under Temporary Visitor status. Check the entry stamp or sticker in your passport and carry it when using the pass. If using automated immigration gates, ask airport staff for the entry stamp or sticker.
