Stay in Nagasaki City or continue to Sasebo?

Base yourself in Nagasaki City for Dejima, Glover Garden, and Mount Inasa. For the Kujukushima cruise, consider Sasebo hotels and intercity transportation separately.

Start with harbor attractions, night views, or a cruise

Compare Dejima and Glover Garden's historic buildings, the Atomic Bomb Museum exhibitions, and Mount Inasa's night view. The Kujukushima cruise departs from Sasebo, in a different direction from city sightseeing. Check the five facilities' prices, hours, and access before choosing a trip-length itinerary.

Itineraries by length of stay

First choose Nagasaki City's harbor attractions and exhibitions or a move to Sasebo for the cruise. Compare two itineraries for each trip length, from a short city stay to nights split between two cities. These routes use Nagasaki Airport; shorten or skip final-day sightseeing around your airline's check-in requirements.

2 days, 1 night

Compare one city night with Dejima and Glover Garden on separate days or with the Atomic Bomb Museum and Dejima. Shorten day-one visits for a late arrival and skip day-two sightseeing for a morning flight.

3 days, 2 nights

Choose Nagasaki City for separate daytime sightseeing and the Mount Inasa night view, or two Sasebo nights with the cruise on day two. These options do not move between both cities.

4 days, 3 nights

Choose three city nights with visits spread across days or one Nagasaki night followed by two in Sasebo. The Sasebo option separates the city-change day from the cruise day.

5 days, 4 nights

Compare four Nagasaki City nights for daytime attractions and night views with two nights each in Nagasaki and Sasebo. The Sasebo option visits city harbor attractions before moving and dedicating a day to the cruise.

Where would you like to spend the day?

Dejima, Shinchi, and Glover Garden

For Edo-period trade, visit Dejima's reconstructed trading post and exhibitions. For Western-style homes and harbor views, compare Glover Garden. You can connect harbor attractions with a meal at Shinchi. Pay admission separately at both places; use Ishibashi stop and Sky Road for Glover Garden. Give them separate days if visit time is tight.

Atomic Bomb Museum and Hypocenter Park

Take time indoors for the museum exhibition, then see the monument and surviving cathedral wall outdoors at Hypocenter Park. Use the city's detour where the elevator between museum and park is out of service. Hypocenter Park and the Peace Statue area are different places.

Mount Inasa night view

Visit in the evening after city sightseeing. The free shuttle requires a reservation; the ropeway costs extra. If rain or wind stops operations, have a city meal instead and move the night view to another operating day.

Fares, operations, and bus reservations

Sasebo and Kujukushima

To cruise among the islands, take an additional Pearl Sea Resort bus from Sasebo Station. A separate Sasebo stay makes it easier to choose a sailing and return bus than adding a short detour to Nagasaki City sightseeing.

Bus accessHighway bus

Which stop should you start from?

Route up to Glover Garden

Travel from Nagasaki-ekimae to Shinchi Chinatown, then change to an Ishibashi-bound tram. From Ishibashi, use Sky Road's inclined and vertical elevators to reach Gate 2. Return through Gate 2 and the elevators to Ishibashi as well. Allow separate time for tram waits and stone paths inside the garden.

Entrance routes

Between the Atomic Bomb Museum and Hypocenter Park

For a museum-only visit, leave the tram at Atomic Bomb Museum stop and return the same way. To add Hypocenter Park, use the city map's downhill detour and take a station-bound tram from Peace Park stop. Check the connecting outdoor elevator's closure notice and on-site restrictions.

JR travel onward to Fukuoka

Between Hakata and Nagasaki, change between Kamome and Relay Kamome at Takeo-Onsen. Compare Northern Kyushu Pass coverage and consecutive validity days with individual tickets. Nagasaki trams, Sasebo highway buses, cruises, and ropeways are separate. If flying from Fukuoka, allow airport-transfer time after reaching Hakata. Eligibility requires a non-Japanese passport, residence outside Japan, and entry for tourism under Temporary Visitor status. Check the entry stamp or sticker in your passport and carry it when using the pass. If using automated immigration gates, ask airport staff for the entry stamp or sticker.

What should you eat in Nagasaki?

On a Dejima day, choose champon or sara udon in Shinchi Chinatown. On a cruise day, eat at Pearl Sea Resort or return near Sasebo Station for a burger or lemon steak.

Champon and sara udon

Nagasaki champon is made by cooking vegetables, seafood, meat, and noodles together in broth. Sara udon tops noodles with ingredients and a thick sauce; versions use thin crisp noodles or thicker noodles. A Shinchi Chinatown lunch or dinner after Dejima fits naturally into the route.

Turkish rice and kakuni manju

Turkish rice combines foods such as pilaf, spaghetti, and a pork cutlet on one plate, with ingredients and sauces varying by restaurant. Kakuni manju is a snack of braised pork in a soft bun. Check menus and hours before fitting a meal or snack between visits.

Sasebo burgers and lemon steak

In Sasebo, compare burgers with sauces and ingredients that vary by shop, or lemon steak: thinly sliced beef with a lemon-flavored sauce. Eat at Pearl Sea Resort before or after the cruise, or return toward Sasebo Station to choose a restaurant.

Choose a hotel around your sightseeing direction

Near Nagasaki Station

Consider the station area for airport-bus or JR arrival and plans to move to Sasebo. Use trams for Dejima and Glover Garden; the night-view bus boards at the JR station's East Exit transport plaza. Check which side of the station your hotel is on to plan the first transfer.

What if weather or cancellations change the plan?

When the night-view bus cannot be reserved

Add a meal and rest after daytime sightseeing. Do not start a route to the free-bus stop without a reservation. Check same-day ropeway and shuttle operations, then move the visit to an available day.

When the cruise is canceled or sold out

The ¥2,200 cruise fare applies only if you sail. Have a meal or rest at the resort, then return to Sasebo. If choosing another paid facility such as the aquarium, check its admission and operations separately.

Check Nagasaki cameras before your trip

Check each camera's location and update time for the street scene at that spot. A view of one location cannot establish weather across Nagasaki Prefecture or whether cruises and ropeways are operating.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Nagasaki City and Sasebo from the same base?

Dejima, Glover Garden, the Atomic Bomb Museum, and Mount Inasa are grouped into Nagasaki City itineraries. The Kujukushima cruise requires another bus from Sasebo Station to Pearl Sea Resort. Sasebo itineraries stay locally for two nights. A same-day round trip from Nagasaki City requires further checks of the return service and cruise connections.

Do I pay only ¥150 when changing trams at Shinchi?

With cash, pay a separate fare on each tram. The second fare is waived when you meet the official transfer conditions, including paying the full fare for one person with an eligible transit IC card and boarding the second tram within 30 minutes of leaving the first. Mixed cash payment, insufficient balance, and payment for multiple people with one card are excluded.
