Stay in Nagasaki city or continue to Sasebo?
Choose Nagasaki city for Dejima, Glover Garden and Mount Inasa. For a Kujukushima cruise, review Sasebo accommodation and intercity travel separately.
Choose harbour attractions, night views or a cruise first
Compare Dejima and Glover Garden's historic buildings, Atomic Bomb Museum exhibitions and Mount Inasa's night views. The Kujukushima cruise leaves from Sasebo, in a different direction from city attractions. Check admission, hours and access for all five facilities before choosing an itinerary.
Itineraries by trip length
Choose whether to explore harbour attractions and exhibitions in Nagasaki city or move to Sasebo for a cruise. Compare two options for each trip length, from short city stays to nights in both cities. These itineraries use Nagasaki Airport; shorten or omit final-day sightseeing around airline check-in.
2 days / 1 night
Spend one night in the city and compare Dejima and Glover Garden on separate days with the Atomic Bomb Museum and Dejima option. Shorten day-one sightseeing for a late arrival and omit day two before a morning flight.
3 days / 2 nights
Choose Nagasaki city for daytime sightseeing and Mount Inasa, or two nights in Sasebo with a day-two cruise. These options do not move between both cities.
4 days / 3 nights
Choose three nights in the city for attractions on separate days, or one night in Nagasaki followed by two in Sasebo. The Sasebo option separates the moving day and cruise day.
5 days / 4 nights
Compare four nights in Nagasaki city for leisurely daytime attractions and night views with two nights in each city. The Sasebo option explores Nagasaki's harbour attractions, then moves to Sasebo and gives the cruise its own day.

Stay near Sasebo Station for a Kujukushima cruise, with access to Pearl Sea Resort and airport buses. The itinerary moving from Nagasaki city allows two nights in Sasebo.
Where would you like to spend a day?
Dejima, Shinchi and Glover Garden
Choose Dejima's reconstructed trading post and displays for Edo-period trade, or Glover Garden for Western-style houses and harbour views. A Shinchi meal fits between harbour attractions. Each charges separate admission; Glover Garden uses the Ishibashi stop and Sky Road approach. Give them separate days if viewing time is tight.

Atomic Bomb Museum and hypocentre park
Read the indoor museum displays, then see the monument and surviving cathedral wall outdoors at the hypocentre park. Use the city's walking detour where the connecting lift is suspended. The hypocentre park and Peace Statue area are separate places.

Mount Inasa's night views
Visit in the evening after daytime city sightseeing. The free shuttle requires a reservation; ropeway fares cost extra. If rain or wind suspends services, have a city meal and move the mountain outing to another operating day.
Sasebo and Kujukushima
To cruise between islands, take another bus from Sasebo Station to Pearl Sea Resort. A separate Sasebo stay makes sailings and return buses easier to plan than a short addition to Nagasaki sightseeing.
Which stop should you use?
The approach to Glover Garden
Travel from Nagasaki-Ekimae to Shinchi Chinatown and change to an Ishibashi-bound tram. From Ishibashi, use Sky Road's inclined and vertical lifts to reach Gate 2. Return via the same gate and lifts to Ishibashi. Allow separate time for tram waits and stone paths within the garden.
Between the museum and hypocentre park
For the museum only, get off at the Atomic Bomb Museum stop and return by the same route. To continue to the hypocentre park, use the city map's downhill detour and take a station-bound tram from Peace Park stop. Check the suspended outdoor lift notice and on-site restrictions.

Continue to Fukuoka by JR
Between Hakata and Nagasaki, change between Kamome and Relay Kamome at Takeo-Onsen. Compare Northern Kyushu Rail Pass coverage and consecutive validity with individual tickets. Nagasaki trams, Sasebo highway buses, cruises and ropeways cost extra. For a Fukuoka flight, allow airport travel time after arriving at Hakata. Pass eligibility requires a non-Japanese passport, residence outside Japan and tourism entry under Temporary Visitor status. Check your entry stamp or sticker and carry your passport when using the pass. If using automated immigration gates, ask airport staff for an entry stamp or sticker.

What should you eat in Nagasaki?
On a Dejima day, look for champon or sara udon in Shinchi Chinatown. On a cruise day, eat at Pearl Sea Resort or return to the Sasebo Station area for a Sasebo burger or lemon steak.
Champon and sara udon
Champon cooks vegetables, seafood, meat and noodles together in broth. Sara udon tops noodles with a thick sauce and ingredients, using either thin crisp noodles or thicker noodles. Lunch or dinner in Shinchi Chinatown fits after Dejima sightseeing.

Turkish rice and kakuni manju
Turkish rice combines pilaf, spaghetti, pork cutlet and other items on one plate, with contents and sauces varying by shop. Kakuni manju is a soft bun filled with braised pork. Check menus and hours for a meal or snack between visits.

Sasebo burgers and lemon steak
In Sasebo, consider burgers with shop-specific sauces and ingredients, or thinly sliced beef with a lemon-flavoured sauce as lemon steak. Eat at Pearl Sea Resort before or after the cruise, or choose a meal after returning towards Sasebo Station.

Compare attraction and transport costs separately
Each itinerary price is a subtotal of its listed items. One- and two-night options include different costs from three- and four-night options, so compare inclusions alongside figures. Accommodation, meals and flights always cost extra.

Choose accommodation around your sightseeing area
Near Nagasaki Station
Consider the station area for airport bus or JR arrivals and a move to Sasebo. Visit Dejima and Glover Garden by tram; the night-view shuttle boards in the JR station's east-exit traffic plaza. Check which side of the station your hotel is on to plan your first journey.

Near Sasebo Station
Choose a Sasebo stay to separate cruising and airport departure. Use Sasebo-Ekimae stand 6 for Pearl Sea Resort and bus centre stand 1 for the airport. Compare stays in both Nagasaki and Sasebo in the three- and four-night options below.
Would a city base or a Sasebo stay suit you?
| Trip length | Staying in the city | Adding Sasebo |
|---|---|---|
| One night, two days | Harbour attractions or museum focus | Stay in the city for harbour attractions or the museum. With two nights or more, consider the Sasebo cruise option. |
| Two nights, three days | Daytime sightseeing and night views | Two nights in Sasebo, cruising on day two |
| Three nights, four days | Attractions and night views on separate days | One night in Nagasaki, two in Sasebo |
| Four nights, five days | More time for city sightseeing | Two nights in Nagasaki, two in Sasebo |
What if weather or suspensions change your plans?
If you cannot reserve the night-view bus
After daytime attractions, plan a meal and rest. Do not head to the free shuttle stop without a reservation. Check same-day ropeway and shuttle services, then move the outing to an available day.
If the cruise is cancelled or sold out
The JPY 2,200 cruise fee applies only if you board. Eat or rest at the resort and return to Sasebo. Other paid facilities, such as the aquarium, require separate admission and operating checks.
View cameras before your Nagasaki trip
Check filming locations and update times for local street views. One camera location cannot establish weather throughout the prefecture or whether cruises and the ropeway are operating.
FAQs
Can I visit Nagasaki city and Sasebo from one base?
Dejima, Glover Garden, the Atomic Bomb Museum and Mount Inasa are grouped into Nagasaki city itineraries. Kujukushima requires another bus from Sasebo Station to Pearl Sea Resort. The Sasebo options stay two nights locally. A return day trip from Nagasaki city needs extra checks for return transport and cruise connections.
Does a Shinchi tram transfer cost just JPY 150?
Cash transfers require paying each tram separately. The second fare is waived only when official conditions are met, including full payment for one person with an eligible transport IC card and boarding the second tram within 30 minutes of alighting. Mixed cash payments, insufficient balances and multiple people using one card do not qualify.
