Which Niigata attractions should you visit?
Choose Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei for a riverfront walk, or Marinepia Nihonkai to see marine life up close. For city views from above followed by lunch, combine Befco Bakauke Observatory with Pia Bandai. Explore The Niigata Saito Villa if you enjoy old houses and gardens. A shrine visit means changing trains at Yoshida for Yahiko; actual mine tunnels mean a ferry and island bus journey to Sado Gold Mine.

Can I add Sado Gold Mine to a half-day city walk?
The mine is on Sado Island. The car ferry from Niigata Port to Ryotsu Port takes about 2½ hours each way, followed by a bus journey to the mine. Plan a separate island trip instead of adding it to a half-day Niigata city walk. The 3-night and 4-night itineraries that include the mine use two nights in Ryotsu, with the mine visit and return ferry on separate days.
