Tokushima attractions: performance, strait, and valley admission and directions
Choose Awa Odori Kaikan for dance or Bizan for city views. Time Uzu no Michi around the tide table for strait whirlpools. Compare Iya’s vine bridge or the Oboke boat for a closer valley visit, but choose western transport and lodging first.

Even if you cannot visit during the summer festival, Awa Odori Kaikan offers dance performances. You may also learn the dance during the participation segment. Daytime shows last 40 minutes; for an arrival-day visit, reach the Kaikan before the chosen start time.
- AdmissionDaytime performance: adults ¥1,300; elementary and junior high school students ¥700. Evening performance: adults ¥1,600; elementary and junior high school students ¥800. These are different from museum tickets.
- PerformancesRegular daytime shows start at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m., each lasting 40 minutes; the 8 p.m. evening show lasts 50 minutes. Regular shows pause August 11–15; special festival performances have different dates and prices. The Kaikan closes on the second Wednesday of February, June, September, and December (the following day if a public holiday) and December 28–January 1. Performance notices take precedence for temporary changes.
- ReservationsIndividuals and small groups do not book regular performances in advance. Arrive for your chosen show and buy tickets. Groups of 20 or more have separate reservation guidance.
- Getting thereWalk from Tokushima Station to the Kaikan and go to the second-floor theater. The Bizan Ropeway departs from the same building’s fifth floor.

Choose Bizan for views toward the city, river, and sea. Visibility depends on the weather. You can continue from a performance to the ropeway in the same building.

- HoursThe Bizan Ropeway operates 9 a.m.–9 p.m. April–October; 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m. November–March. Maintenance or bad weather can suspend operation.
- Getting thereBoard at the Kaikan’s fifth-floor base station and get off at the summit. The ride takes about six minutes; waiting and walks near the viewing area take additional time.

Walk beneath the bridge at Uzu no Michi to look down at Naruto Strait. Through the glass floor, see the sea and currents underfoot. Whirlpool timing and size vary by day, so plan around your date’s tide table.

- HoursUzu no Michi is open 9 a.m.–6 p.m. March–September, last admission 5:30 p.m.; 9 a.m.–5 p.m. October–February, last admission 4:30 p.m. Golden Week and summer holidays have separate hours. Closed the second Monday of March, June, September, and December; an additional closure is announced for December 14–16, 2026.
- Getting thereTake a Naruto Park-bound bus from in front of Tokushima Station, get off at the park, and walk about five minutes. Facility guidance lists roughly 80 minutes aboard the bus, excluding waiting. For driving, follow official instructions and set navigation to the Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall Eddy; entering only Uzu no Michi may send you elsewhere.

Cross a vine bridge above the valley. If the gaps underfoot or swaying feel uncomfortable, inspect the bridge on site before deciding. You can choose not to cross.
- AdmissionJunior high school students and older ¥550; elementary school students ¥350; preschool children free. Kazurabashi Yumebutai regular-car parking costs ¥500 per vehicle, separate from bridge admission; no parking reservations.
- HoursThe bridge is open 8 a.m.–6 p.m. April–June; 7:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. July–August; 8 a.m.–5 p.m. September–March. Check bad-weather schedule changes separately.
- Getting thereContinue from JR Oboke by bus or taxi. Kazurabashi and the Oku-Iya double vine bridges are different destinations. The official walk from Kazurabashi or Kazurabashi Yumebutai stop is about five minutes. For driving, navigate to Kazurabashi Yumebutai parking, then walk past the facility to the bridge. Bus travelers must return to their arrival stop afterward. First check bus services and lodging pickup for your date.

Walk slowly along Wakimachi Udatsu Street to see historic houses’ roofs and walls. The udatsu walls between houses helped prevent fire from spreading. Choose the street walk and paid Yoshida Residence interior separately.
- Admission and hoursDistinguish the street walk from house interiors. Nearby Ai Land Udatsu is open 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and closes December 27–January 1. Yoshida Residence admission is ¥510 for adults, ¥250 for children; the residence is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m., last admission 4:30 p.m. Individual shop hours vary.
- Getting thereGo to Ai Land Udatsu’s car parking lot. Official tourism guidance lists roughly 1 hour 5 minutes from Tokushima city or seven minutes from Wakimachi IC. The 39-space regular-car lot is separate from tour-bus parking. Ask the facility about fees. Park and walk toward the Yoshida Residence to enter the historic street.

See Oboke Gorge from a boat. The roughly 30-minute trip follows the river and returns to the same dock. The two-night Iya option puts it on a different day from the vine bridge. Strong winds or high water can change operation.
- AdmissionThe operator’s current price is ¥1,800 for adults and ¥900 for ages 3 through elementary school. The tourism association’s ¥1,500 adult price predates the September 2026 increase. Check fares against current operator guidance.
- Hours and reservationsThe cruise operates 9 a.m.–5 p.m., last departure 4:30 p.m. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Individuals and groups buy tickets at the first-floor desk without reservations. Strong winds or high water cancel trips; low water may shorten them. Waiting and ticketing are separate from the 30-minute ride.
- Getting thereDrive from your lodging to Obokekyo Mannaka in Nishiu, Yamashirocho, Miyoshi, park, buy tickets at the first-floor desk, and go to the dock. From JR Oboke, tourism association guidance lists about a 25-minute walk or five-minute drive. Road times from your lodging and parking conditions require separate checks using its address.

Are Naruto’s whirlpools visible at any time?
Whirlpools may be absent at some times. Check Uzu no Michi’s tide table and admission cutoff for your date.
Do regular Awa Odori Kaikan performances require reservations?
Individuals and small groups visit at the performance time without advance reservations. Groups of 20 or more require separate booking. Regular performances pause August 11–15, so do not apply the usual schedule and prices during that period.
