Sengan-en
仙巌園
Sengan-en combines gardens and the Shimazu family's former residence with Sakurajima as a backdrop. After exploring the garden and residence interiors, visit Shoko Shuseikan, included in admission. Add time for the museum beyond a garden-and-residence visit.
- AdmissionOrdinary adult admission is JPY 1,600; primary, junior high school and senior high school students pay JPY 800. The adult category is ages 15 and over excluding junior high school and senior high school students. Admission includes the garden, residence and Shoko Shuseikan.
- HoursSengan-en opens 09:00–17:00, with admission until 16:30. It closes for the Kagoshima Marathon on the first Sunday in March.
- Getting thereCheck JR Nippo Main Line trains from Kagoshima-Chuo Station that stop at Sengan-en Station. The garden is about 5 minutes' walk from there. On City View, get off at Sengan-en (Iso-Teien-mae). This loop visits other attractions, so check boarding location and direction.

Shiroyama Observatory
城山展望台
Shiroyama Observatory overlooks Kagoshima city and Sakurajima beyond Kinko Bay. If combining it with Sengan-en, check City View's loop direction. Walking the full trail differs from taking the bus to the observatory.

- Getting thereTake City View from east stand 4 at Kagoshima-Chuo Station and get off at Shiroyama. The nature trail has different entrances, including Tanshoen near Terukuni Shrine and Iwasakidani near the Satsuma Gishihi monument. The full trail is about 2 km. It differs from the route just from the bus stop to the observatory; follow on-site signs.

Yunohira Observatory

Yunohira Observatory offers close views of Sakurajima's rugged slopes. Look up at the mountain and across Kinko Bay towards Kagoshima city. Island View connects from Sakurajima Port; choosing your onward bus first helps plan the island return. Check volcanic and road restrictions before visiting.

- HoursYou can explore the observatory freely, while the shop is listed as 09:00–17:00. Check access restrictions for volcanic and weather conditions on your date.
- Getting thereSakurajima Island View follows a western loop from Sakurajima Port. Guidance lists about 40 minutes on the loop bus from the port to the observatory, different from a direct drive.

Sakurajima Visitor Center
桜島ビジターセンター
Sakurajima Visitor Center exhibitions show how eruptions changed the island's shape. Explore eruption history through landform models and actual volcanic material. If continuing to the observatory after the free displays, allow time to walk to the bus stop.

- Getting thereThe centre is about 10 minutes' walk from Sakurajima Port. Visit the volcanic exhibitions before beginning your island travels.

Saraku sand bath and hot spring
Natural Sand Bath Center 'Saraku'砂むし会館 砂楽
Visit Saraku in Ibusuki for sand bathing and hot-spring bathing. The basic package includes a yukata; prepare a towel separately. Leave time to rest after bathing and return to the station rather than moving on immediately.
- AdmissionThe basic sand-bath package costs JPY 1,500 for junior high school age and older or JPY 800 for primary school age and younger. It includes a sand bath, hot spring and hire yukata, but no towel. The towel package costs JPY 1,800 for adults and JPY 1,100 for children; distinguish the packages.
- HoursSaraku opens 08:30–21:00, with reception until 20:00. Sand-bath reception pauses 12:00–13:00 on weekdays. Check maintenance closures and special-price periods on the operator's calendar.
- Getting thereTake the JR Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line from Kagoshima-Chuo Station to Ibusuki. Saraku is about 20 minutes' walk or 5 minutes by taxi from the station. Station arrival is not arrival at the bathing facility, so compare onward travel with the reception cutoff.

Kirishima Jingu
霧島神宮
Kirishima Jingu brings together a green worship approach and red shrine buildings. See the grounds containing the main sanctuary, offering hall and worship hall designated as National Treasures. A bus connects from JR Kirishima-Jingu Station; for a mountain stay, arrange onward travel from the shrine to your accommodation.
- AdmissionGeneral worship is free. Shrine items and prayers are extra.
- HoursThe operator distinguishes open access for worship in the grounds from prayer and shrine-office reception at 08:00–17:00. Follow visit-date guidance for night routes, lighting and event restrictions.
- Getting thereTake the JR Nippo Main Line from Kagoshima-Chuo Station to Kirishima-Jingu, then a bus towards Kirishima Iwasaki Hotel for about 15 minutes, getting off at Kirishima-Jingu stop. This is not a walk directly from the station to the shrine. Drivers should use the car park route on the operator's access page. Ordinary passenger-car parking is free; allow separate time to walk to the worship area.

Kagoshima City Aquarium
いおワールドかごしま水族館
Explore the Kuroshio large tank and Nansei Islands sea displays for close views of marine life. The mangrove tank and dolphin pool let you compare different habitats. For an unhurried aquarium visit, use a different day from Sakurajima sightseeing.
- AdmissionOrdinary adult admission, for senior high school age and older, is JPY 2,000; primary and junior high school students pay JPY 1,000. Kagoshima resident rates require separate eligibility and are not applied to traveller costs.
- HoursThe aquarium opens 09:30–18:00, with admission until 17:00. It regularly closes for four days from the first Monday in December. Check specific extended-opening dates rather than applying them as normal hours.
- Getting thereTake route 2 tram from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, get off at Suizokukan-guchi and walk about 8 minutes. For the return, check route 2 towards Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Proximity to the ferry pier does not remove the roughly 8-minute walk from the tram stop.

Kirishima Shinwa no Sato Park
霧島神話の里公園
Explore the viewing plaza and hills for mountain scenery and a break in Kirishima. Choose walking or the park's road train, sightseeing lift and slider. Rides cost extra; lifts and sliders may stop if weather changes suddenly.

- HoursThe park opens 09:00–17:00. Hoto Kirishimakan restaurant opens 11:00–16:00, takes orders until 15:00 and closes Wednesdays. Distinguish meal hours from park hours and check changes for your date.
- Getting thereThe address is 2583-22 Kirishima Taguchi, Kirishima City. Official tourism guidance lists about 1 hour 30 minutes by car from Kagoshima city, excluding departure from your property, congestion and parking. Drive to the park car park and follow on-site walking signs. The overnight Kirishima itineraries use a hire car. For buses, first confirm service to Shinwa-no-Sato-Iriguchi stop on your date, the return journey and the walk from the stop to the park.
