Aomori attractions: visiting conditions and directions
Choose WA RASSE for Nebuta or Hakkoda-Maru for railway/ferry history. Separate ruins and art days, and walk Hirosaki’s gates/moats. For Hakkoda scenery or lake stays, choose operating bus dates and returns first.

Nebuta Museum WA RASSE
ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ
See indoor Nebuta exhibits even outside festival dates. Near Aomori Station, the museum suits an arrival-day visit.
- PricesIndividual exhibition admission costs JPY 620 for adults, JPY 460 for high school pupils and JPY 260 for primary and junior high school pupils. Online purchasing is listed as unavailable.
- HoursThe museum opens from 09:00 to 19:00 between May and August, and from 09:00 to 18:00 between September and April. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Whole-facility closures are 9–10 August and 31 December–1 January, plus a temporary closure on 11 October 2026.
- Getting thereThe museum is about one minute on foot from JR Aomori Station, east towards the waterfront.

Sannai-Maruyama Historical Site
三内丸山遺跡
See Jomon life through pottery, clay figures and reconstructions. Start with the indoor exhibits, then walk through the outdoor ruins. This order also lets you begin indoors when it rains.
- PricesOrdinary admission costs JPY 500, or JPY 250 for university students and similar categories. High school pupils and younger enter free. Special exhibitions cost extra.
- HoursThe site opens from 09:00 to 17:00, with extended closing at 18:00 during Golden Week and June–September. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. It closes on fourth Mondays, or the next day for holidays, 30 December–1 January and collection-management days.
- Getting thereBoard Nebutan-go at Aomori west stop 2 for 三内丸山遺跡前: adult JPY 300 per ride. Choose the return before leaving. The prefectural transport portal gives about one minute from stop to site. From the roundabout, find Jomon Jiyukan · 縄文時遊館’s tickets/entry.

Aomori Museum of Art
青森県立美術館
Get close to Yoshitomo Nara’s Aomori-ken when the outdoor passage opens. Sculpture viewing and indoor exhibits are separate choices; allocate time according to whether you want one or both.
- PricesOrdinary collection exhibition admission costs JPY 700, or JPY 400 for university students. Visitors aged 18 and under and high school pupils enter free. Check special exhibitions and exhibition-dependent prices separately.
- HoursThe museum opens from 09:30 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. Check your date in the official closure calendar.
- Getting thereFrom Aomori municipal stop 6, board towards Sannai-Maruyama to 県立美術館前. The city’s 2026 timetable lists adult one-way JPY 280. Check services and stops for your date. Nebutan-go from Shin-Aomori east is another route; do not mix different bus fares. Walk on the left pavement, turn right at entrance signs; official summer video gives about two minutes. From floor-one general information, use the gallery lift to basement level two. Allow tickets/gallery access separately and use winter directions in snow.
- Getting close to Aomori-kenThe open outdoor passage allows free close-up viewing. It has stairs and takes roughly 10–15 minutes return just to walk. The passage opens from 09:45 to 16:30, with its entrance locked at 16:30. In 2026 it opened 21 April and closes around the first snow; check your date. This differs from indoor collection admission.

Hirosaki Park
弘前公園
Plan gates/moat walks. Hirosaki Castle keep interiors have been suspended since 24 November 2025 for the time being. Park walking differs from keep entry.
- PricesFree and paid areas differ. Routes below use free walks; choose Honmaru/northern paid areas after checking daily opening/prices with park management.
- HoursEntry to the keep interior is unavailable. Parts of southern Honmaru have access restrictions and diversions via temporary stairs until around 31 March 2027. Visitors cannot enter the area around Hitsujisaru turret. Check daily opening guidance for paid areas.
- Getting thereWalk from Hirosaki towards Dotemachi to Otemon. Official station-starting guidance gives about 30 minutes; hotel travel and park walks are separate.
Hakkoda Ropeway
八甲田ロープウェー
Choose mountain scenery instead of city exhibits. A ticket to Sancho Koen does not guarantee all hiking trails open. Winter mountaineering/skiing requires different preparation from ordinary walking; plan separately.
- PricesVisitors of junior high school age and above pay JPY 2,500 return or JPY 1,550 one way. Primary school pupils pay JPY 700 return or JPY 450 one way; preschool children travel free. Prices were revised on 1 August 2026.
- HoursOrdinary first service 09:00; October 2026 starts earlier at 08:30 weekdays or 08:15 weekends/public holidays. Final service 16:20 March–early November, 15:40 mid-November–February. Ride roughly ten minutes. Planned suspension 8–20 November 2026 for maintenance/electrical works; omit mountain visits then. Check weather suspension and downward service times that day.
- Getting thereTake JR Bus towards Lake Towada/Sukayu from Aomori to ロープウェー駅前: adult one-way JPY 1,290. Autumn/winter routes and bookings differ; choose both date-specific services officially. Eligible winter departures from Aomori/Shin-Aomori require advance booking and JPY 300 per ride booking fee. The notice says Ropeway Eki-mae → Aomori return reservations are not accepted.

Hakkoda-Maru ferry memorial ship

A ferry that carried trains across the sea. See first-floor railway vehicles and third-floor reconstructions of the old Aomori Station apple market/ferry waiting room.
- PricesIndividual exhibit admission costs JPY 510 for adults. WA RASSE officially lists combined tickets as ended, so the itinerary costs include separate admission to each facility.
- HoursFrom April to October, the ship opens from 09:00 to 19:00, with last entry at 18:00. From November to March, it opens from 09:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It closes on winter Mondays, or the next day for public holidays, 31 December and 1 January, and Monday–Friday in March’s second week. Floor-four views may close in winter or bad weather.
- Getting thereThe ship is about five minutes from Aomori Station. Enter through the second-floor boarding entrance and ticket office for onboard exhibits. Allow station walking, ticketing and viewing time separately.

Hirosaki City Museum

Inside park Otemon, the museum combines Tsugaru history/culture with walking. Check the exhibition and its price for your date first.
- PricesOrdinary admission costs JPY 500 for the 3 October–29 November 2026 exhibition. Other exhibitions may differ.
- HoursSugae Masumi’s Tsugaru travel exhibition runs from 3 October to 29 November 2026, with opening hours of 09:30–16:30. Planned closures are 19 October and 16 November.
- Getting thereFollow Otemon’s left-arrow sign along the wooded path between tennis courts and square, then turn right for the museum.
Lake Towada Yasumiya shore
Lake Towada Yasumiya十和田湖休屋
Two lake nights allow leisurely shore walks and hotel rests. Western-shore Towada Hotel in Kosaka, Akita is not beside Yasumiya stop; use reserved shuttles.
- Visiting and access conditionsThe prefectural agency gives 15 minutes from stop to Maiden Statue; the environment ministry gives five from central Yasumiya to shrine. Different starts mean the whole walk is not 20 minutes. Check cruises/Oirase operation and returns separately.
- Buses and accommodation accessChoose return JR Bus services towards Lake Towada from Aomori first. Winter Aomori services end at Sukayu, not Yasumiya. Towada Hotel is about 15 minutes by reserved shuttle from Yasumiya; book by around 22:00 the previous evening, or it does not run. Do not assume other hotels offer the same shuttle.
- Towada Hotel shuttle timesShuttles from the hotel to Yasumiya depart at 08:30, 09:30 and 10:30; those from Yasumiya to the hotel depart at 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00. These reserved fixed-time services may change without notice. Confirm both journeys for shore walks during multi-night stays.

Can I buy WA RASSE tickets online?
Online purchasing is listed unsupported. Individual adult onsite admission is JPY 620; nearby-facility combined tickets ended in late March 2025.
